  • This country used to be tougher than any joke anyone could make about it and stronger than any parody song or burned flag or badly-sung national anthem. We'd laugh and shrug it off and go on being a great nation. Nothing anybody could say or write or sing could bother us.

  • Warehouse clubs are good sources for economical batteries. I believe I read somewhere that the Costco Kirkland batteries are made by Duracell while the Members Mark batteries at Sams are made by Energizer. Not sure about the Berkeley and Jensen batteries at BJs.

  • Maybe this has never been done in a poor area but there are outdoor escalators in Hong Kong. Of course, they service the wealthy shopping areas.

  • Interesting that A&W doesn't exist outside the US. The only place I have ever seen an A&W restaurant was in Canada. Never seen one in the US.

  • That sort of weird tracking result happens fairly often. Rather than the mail actually making those useless trips, it's often just scanned in wrong somewhere else and the nonsense results are presented to you bad data and all. Still, they do reroute mail like that from time to time.

  • The reasons to get married and stay married have declined. The economy is down meaning there is less certainty. If you marry someone now, they could end up unemployed. More than half of all marriages end in divorce so it's far from the "til death do us part" fantasy of prior generations.
